Symphonic Bells of Bloomington (SBB) is an advanced handbell ensemble in Bloomington, Indiana, committed to promoting the art of English handbell ringing through performance, education, and community outreach. The ensemble includes students and staff of Indiana University and community ringers. Founded in the fall of 2010 by co-directors Kevin Neel, Skip Sluder, and Elaine Sonnenberg, SBB presented their first concert in December 2010, rehearsing and presenting at First United Methodist Church. In the summer of 2012, Kevin and Elaine left the Bloomington area. In the summer of 2015 Skip Sluder left the Bloomington area too.
SBB rings a wide variety of sacred and secular music, to challenge ourselves to grow musically, spiritually, and professionally in a creative, caring and nurturing atmosphere and to serve our community and choir with pride and respect.
At present, the ensemble rehearses weekly on 4.5 octaves of bells, 3 octaves of chimes. The instruments and facility are courtesy of Faith Lutheran Church.
The Symphonic Bells rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. (with a brief break), using the facilities and equipment of Faith Lutheran Church in Bloomington.
